Having a self-care kit is one of the best ways to ensure you can treat yourself every day. This will help you keep your stress levels in check, feel good about yourself, and enjoy the little things in life. In this article, I’ll show you how to create your own self-care kit — a step-by-step guide from shopping list to finished product.

How To Create Your Own Self-Care Kit

What is a self-care kit?

A self-care kit is a collection of items that help you with your self-care. The purpose of a self-care kit is to have items in your possession that can help you take care of yourself when you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, upset, or just need some TLC. Self-care kits come in all shapes and sizes. They can be customized for what works for you. You can have one for home, work, school, or even just have a travel kit for when you need it! You can have one that helps with anxiety, depression, or any other mental health problem. You can put anything into your self-care kit that helps you feel better. Some ideas are:

Anxiety: A fidget toy (e.g., squishy ball), an adult colouring book Depression: An affirmation card or journal entry from the past that made you smile, a picture of a loved one

Stress: A stress ball Mood swings: Something scented like lavender lotion (for calming) or peppermint mints (for invigorating).

Anger management: A rubber band to snap on your wrist and release tension when you notice yourself getting angry at someone

How do you create one?

1. Get yourself a box or a container

This can be anything that you want it to be. It can be a shoebox or a plastic bin or even a suitcase or bag of some sort. It doesn’t matter what the container looks like – just as long as it holds your things and gives you a little happiness just looking at it.

2. Decide what you want to include in this kit

Self-care kits can be individualized to your needs and preferences, but include things that relax you and makes you feel good. The general rule of thumb is that the more senses your item appeal to, the more happiness it will bring you. This means you can include items like:

- Candles

Sweet Water Decor Spa Day Candle

- Essential oils

Cliganic Aromatherapy Essential Oils Set

- Teabags

- A favourite book or magazine

- Notebook for journaling/writing letters

Sweet Water Decor Dream Plan Do Journal Notebook

- Your favourite playlist

- Bath bombs or bubbles or shower steamers

Ouai Chill Pills Bath Bombs

Body Restore Shower Steamers

- Pampering products such as nail varnish, hair oil, lotion, lip balm, face mask and eye mask

Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter

Buxom Full Plump Lip Balm

Mielle Organics Babassu & Mint Deep Conditioner

Patchology Serve Chilled Rosé Eye Gels

- Pictures of positive memories and happy times

- Lots of chocolate!

3. Put your items together in your box and place the box where you’ll see it every day Whenever you feel overwhelmed by something, take out an item or two and enjoy them this is a great way to relieve the stress or anxiety and instantly make you feel better.

The key to a successful self-care kit lies in picking the right essentials for your needs. Experiment with different combinations until you find one that works best for you!
